Welcome

Independent Pro Wrestling Weekly is a weekly newsletter for the pro wrestling fan looking to discover more of what independent wrestling has to offer.

You probably already know to where to find all the latest news and events for WWE, AEW and other larger name pro wrestling companies, but what about the independent companies? What about the ones who don’t have the capital to defeat the unfair algorithms of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and almost every popular social media platform there is? Answer — they get lost in the deck of cards that are posts by big businesses, your friend from high school’s newest addition to the family and the latest social media challenge.

Enter Independent Pro Wrestling Weekly where the goal is to give you exactly what you need to know to take advantage of the world of independent pro wrestling. Weekly you’ll learn about some of the up and coming and also established players on the independent pro wrestling scene. Many of the current wrestlers on the independent pro wrestling scene could very well be the people heading the WrestleManias of tomorrow.

Expect to see upcoming independent pro wrestling shows at the bottom of each newsletter, so you can spend your weekend getting entertained by the starts of today and tomorrow. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Subscribe to Independent Pro Wrestling Weekly and make sure your friends do too!

Should I Support Independent Wrestling?

A common question I hear is why should anyone pay money for an independent pro wrestling show when they can pay to see a better show like WWE or AEW?

You’re right why should you? Yes WWE and AEW have larger productions, larger budgets and more larger than life pro wrestlers, but they also have your money too and I mean a lot of it. Not to mention they also have the money of advertisers, network sponsors and television deals.

Did You Know that the majority of the larger than life wrestlers you spend your heard earned money to see at WWE and AEW got their start on the independent pro wrestling scene? Some are lucky and get to sit at the big table right away making good money every year, but the ones who aren’t lucky get their start wrestling in warehouses, high school gyms, Walmart parking lots and anywhere else your mind can conceive putting a pro wrestling ring. Why not not be able to say that you knew that wrestler when he wrestled at your local American Legion every third Saturday of the month?

Independent pro wrestling shows are intimate in the fact that you won’t spend WWE or AEW ticket price, but usually you’ll spend anywhere from around zero dollars to maybe thirty bucks. Usually you can sit anywhere you want and if that is the case get there early and you can sit front row. Independent pro wrestling shows have opportunities for you to meet the performers of the night before and after the show, but usually in the middle of the show during intermission. You can take pictures, get autographs and buy their t shirts and don’t forget to follow them on social media too!

Why support independent pro wrestling? Because you may not have the cashflow or the time to follow WWE, AEW or larger pro wrestling companies around, but you do may have the cashflow and time to travel a few minutes on a random night and be more entertained than you would have paying for a movie at your local cinema.

NY to Deregulate Pro Wrestling?

Last March, New York State Senator Timothy Kennedy introduced a bill that could change the strict requirements set by the New York State Athletic Commission for pro wrestling events across The State.

Currently pro wrestling promoters who run shows in New York are required to have EMT’s, an ambulance, a doctor, bond and insurance just to put on a show just like MMA and boxing require, but we know what pro wrestling is and it would make those requirements are excessive. For independent pro wrestling companies thatis an extra added cost that is most times passed on to the fans. I’ve seen for independent pro wrestling shows in New Jersey sell for $10 or $15, but in New York the same promoters hosting the shows are charging $15, $20 or even more for the same wrestlers just to cover the extra overhead costs.

It is harmful to the pro wrestlers, the fans and the promoters in New York. Pro wrestlers who live in New York normally have to travel to out of state to entertain a crowd and they already aren’t making life changing money. A person is less inclined to travel for an independent pro wrestling event when they aren’t familiar with the faces on the poster, but may take the chance when it’s closer to where they live. A family of four could pay $80 for tickets, they all left the house hungry and someone might want a t shirt. The point isn’t that the show isn’t worth $20 per person, but that the amount of value is diminished, because it costs more to run a show in New York.

The people of New York State deserve to have more pro wrestling. The New York State Athletic Commission has until Fall 2023 to make a decision on the matter and hopefully it will be in the favor of the wrestlers, the promoters and most importantly — the fans who live close to or in New York State.

If you live in New York, contact your local Senator or to see the proposed bill yourself using the link below.
